Der Hanbo

The Hanbo is a wooden stick about 90 cm long. It does not appear in the history of Kobudo. Even if it can be used as a walking stick, in the past the walking stick (Bo) was used more in Okinawa. Nevertheless, the Hanbo is still a self-defense aid that can be used on a daily basis, because the Hanbo techniques can be implemented excellently with an umbrella or walking stick. The Hanbo has been included in the RYUKYU KOBUDO SHOTOKAN as a replacement for the Nunchaku (see "Forbidden items").
